At 14h11, Thursday, 14th November, NSRI Table Bay and NSRI Melkbosstrand were activated following reports of a drowning in progress at Milnerton Lagoon Beach.
NSRI Table Bay and NSRI Melkbosstrand, NSRI lifeguards, CoCT (City of Cape Town) lifeguards at Milnerton Beach, Cape Town Fire and Rescue Services and their dive unit, WC Government Health EMS, Community Medics, Cape Town Traffic Services, Law Enforcement and Neighbourhood Watch responded.
NSRI Bakoven was placed on alert.
CoCT lifeguards launched their rescue rigid inflatable at Milnerton Beach and following a search located the 46 year old local man approximately a nautical mile off-shore of the Milnerton Lighthouse drifting in the surf.
They rescued the man onto the rescue craft and brought him to shore where he was treated by paramedics for non-fatal drowning symptoms and hypothermia.
The man has bee transported to hospital in a stable condition by EMS ambulance.
CoCT lifeguards, on duty at Milnerton Lifesaving Club, are commended for their swift action that contributed in saving the man.
