Sentir Tapas and Spirit Space
Fine-dining tapas, spirited cocktails and a sophisticated speakeasy ambiance come together in Long Street’s oldest building. The opening of Sentir Tapas and Spirit Space in what was once the headquarters of Victorian wine merchants adds a stylish notch to the belt of Long Street, Cape Town’s night life epicentre. “Sentir which means ‘to sense, to feel, taste and smell’ captures the multi-sensorial experience we want for our guests. It’s an expression of all the things we love and want to share – contemporary food, international fusion, wine and design. Each item on the menu, each piece of furniture was carefully considered – reflecting our stories, our travels and heritage.” The space echoes owner, Rickma’s Coxon’s eclectic style, blending the multi-cultural vibe of inner-city Cape Town with bespoke cocktails, contemporary Delft accents, bronze light shades, up-cycled pendant lights on eco-rope, varnished wooden floors, high back sofas in midnight blue velvet and African kiaat. Contemporary design and nautical elements rub shoulders with the historic features of the heritage building. Co-owner and chef Ciska Rossouw shares Rickma’s hands-on-approach and do it ourselves-attitude, her beautiful small plate food completes Sentir’s homage to the senses. Sentir offers fine-dining tapas that would challenge and delight guests. Taking inspiration from the senses, the menu is designed and guided by the flavour elements salty, spicy sour, sweet, bitter and umami, rather than the expected starter, mains, dessert-format.
