The University [24/365]

This is the guard tower at the limestone quarry on Robben Island in South Africa where Nelson Mandela and other prisoners had to dig out limestone. The reflection of the sun from the limestone rendered the prisoners’ eyes very sensitive to light. Even today, one can’t take photos of Nelson Mandela with flash. The prisoners called this place "The University" as the freedom fighters among them tried to teach the others about the anti-apartheid movement.
