At 15h58, Wednesday, 11th October, NSRI Hermanus duty crew were activated following reports from a fishing vessel of an unmanned rubber-duck found floating off-shore of Danger Point, Gansbaai.
The fishing vessel had attached a tow-line and were remaining at the position where the unmanned rubber-duck was found about 1 nautical mile off-shore.
The sea rescue craft South Star and Jaytee III was launched.
On arrival on the scene NSRI took over the tow-line and no identification was found with the unmanned rubber-duck.
In an onshore wind it appears that the rubber-duck had drifted towards shore from the open sea.
A search of the area and enquiries to Marine authorities and Police reveal no reports and no signs of any persons overdue or missing.
The rubber-duck was towed by NSRI Hermanus to Gansbaai harbour and handed into the care of Marine Coastal authorities and Police.
By Thursday there remained no reports of any persons overdue or missing and Police will continue to monitor.
