A rare vertical collection of MR de Compostella from winemaker friends Bruwer Raats and Mzokhona Mvemve hit the jackpot at this year’s AfrAsia Cape Wine Auction, when the 8-bottle lot sold for R150 000.
Featuring vintages from 2004 to 2012, this collection has never before been sold in its entirety and at R18 750 per bottle, achieved one of the highest average prices per bottle at the auction. The MR de Compostella has received international acclaim since the maiden vintage of this exquisite Bordeaux blend was released in 2004. Accolades include a 96 rating in Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate for three of the past four vintages.
According to Bruwer Raats, they were delighted that the wines did so well and that they could assist in making a significant contribution to the auction charities. “It has always been very important to myself and Mzo to give something back to our communities. We have both been fortunate enough to follow our dreams and the global success of the MR de Compostella has exceeded all our expectations. We would also like to acknowledge the generosity of Mr Wilfried Sauerland for buying our lot and look forward to hosting him in my home for a traditional Boere braai and a private tasting,” mentions Raats.
