Ex RNLI Deep Sea Rescue boat arrives in Cape Town

Sea Rescue yesterday took delivery of an ex-Royal National Lifeboat Institute ( RNLI) deep sea rescue boat that will replace the one lost in the Gordons Bay ship-yard fire. The 7th Brede brought to South Africa by NSRI was off-loaded at Cape Town harbour yesterday ( 01 February 2012). The 10 metre Brede Class lifeboat was brought from Tilbury docks in the United Kingdom to Cape Town harbour at no cost to NSRI because of the generous donations by all who helped with the project. Busy and Tragic Wednesday for Cape Town NSRI

In three separate incidents on Wednesday, 18th January, 1 man was rescued and 2 men are missing and are presumed to have drowned. At 14h56 NSRI Bakoven and Clifton Surf Lifesaving were activated after a man was witnessed waving for help on rocks off-shore of Clifton Beach. NSRI Hout Bay volunteers, Cape Town Fire and Rescue Services and the SA Police Force responded, at 12h28 on Saturday 7 January, to Hout Bay Main Beach following reports of two children in difficulties in the water. At 16h07 on Friday 6 January 2012, NSRI Melkbosstrand volunteer sea rescue duty crew were activated following reports of a suspected drowning in progress at Melkbosstrand Beach. It appears that a 19 year old male, from Atlantis, is reported to have suffered a seizure (epileptic seizure) while swimming.
