At present there are a total of 156 registered political parties in South Africa, 117 of them registered as National parties and the following local only party registrations: 6 in the Eastern Cape, 2 in the Free State, 60 for Gauteng, 2 in Mpumalanga, 1 in the Northern Cape, 5 in Limpopo, 3 in the North West and the Western Cape with 14.
