Final Draw ‘a Celebration of Africa’

Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Centre gears up for 2010

The Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Centre (MRCC) recently ran a planning exercise for Search and Rescue (SAR) at their Cape Town offices. The aim of the exercise was to test the operational readiness of the MRCC to respond to any emergency situations that may arise with the expected increased number of ships that are expected to be operating within our waters over the next year as part of the preparations and also accommodation for the 2010 soccer world cup. The FIFA World Cup draw took place in Cape Town, South Africa on 4 December 2009. Cape Town will see the following countries play in the first round of Group Matches; Uruguay, France, Italy, Paraguay, England, Algeria, Portugal, Korea DPR, Cameroon and Netherlands. City Council meeting highlights

At its November meeting, the City's Council took decisions on its 2010 transport plan, housing, and the environment, amongst other issues. World Cup transport plan approved The Council has approved the updated transport plan for next year's 2010 FIFA World Cup™. The plan provides for 32 000 parking bays in the central business district, and the deployment of more than 200 trained personnel and volunteers to co-ordinate the transport service. Ring of Fire for Greenpoint Stadium

The Cape Town Stadium's 'ring of fire' – the 360 inner spotlights that will light up the pitch for the 2010 Fifa World Cup –have been switched on for the first time. Motorists and residents in the surrounding area will have seen the big switch-on on Wednesday night.
