2 Day Search for 3 fishermen along the West Coast

At 19h00 on Thursday 19 April, NSRI Mykonos volunteer sea rescue duty crew were activated by the Transnet National Ports Authority following reports of 2 fishermen lost and adrift at sea after experiencing engine failure on their small fishing boat (crayfish bakkie) off Elands Bay after launching at 18h00. Lobster Season not Extended

The Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Acting Deputy-Director General Sue Middleton has decided not to extend the west coast rock lobster recreational season. Skiboat Rescued from Crayfish Nets

Darren Zimmerman, NSRI Simonstown station commander, said; "On Tuesday 12 July at 19h19 our NSRI Simonstown volunteer duty crew were activated following a request for assistance from the ski-boat Cascade reported by her skipper to have her motors tangled in crayfish nets, 4 nautical miles South of Cape Point, with 6 crew onboard and in calm seas. The NSRI Were NOT Crayfishing

In Cape Town an the 25th of January, 2009 at 11h07 Marine and Coastal Management (MCM) requested the assistance of the NSRI to locate a Leatherback Turtle reported to be fouled in crayfish net ropes and a floatation buoy off-shore of Kommetjie.
