The 6th annual Franschhoek Literary Festival, which took place this past weekend, was a great success according to organisers and audiences alike. Children Learn to Love Books at the FLF

The vast majority of South African children are eager to learn, but have minimal access to books that are exciting, engaging and relevant to their lives. The encouragement of a love for reading amongst the youth has been one of the main aims of the Franschhoek Literary Festival since its inception, and one of the reasons why the FLF will host a Book Week for Young Readers from 7to 11May, the week leading up to FLF 2012. The City of Cape Town is getting ready to launch into the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ in style, with a 10 hour-long "Cape Town Welcomes the World Party" on the eve of the official kick-off. Cape Town’s Mocke Wins Tough NMB Classic

Dawid Mocke from Cape Town after winning the Nelson Mandela Bay Surf Ski Classic at the MTN Nelson Mandela Bay Splash Festival in Port Elizabeth on Friday.

Defending champion Dawid Mocke had to work hard in tough conditions to retain his Nelson Mandela Bay Surf Ski Classic title at Hobie Beach in Port Elizabeth on the opening day of the MTN Nelson Mandela Bay Splash Festival. After taking the lead in the closing stages, Mocke, from Fish Hoek in Cape Town, held off Matthew Bouman from Durban for the second year in-a-row.
