The Democratic Alliance is appalled by the lack of urgency the ANC-run Mbhashe Municipality has shown in making sure residents have electricity.
The community has been living without electricity due to the mismanagement of funds by the municipality. The ANC councillor and Mayor have been promising action for months but residents continue to live without electricity.
The Villages without electricity include Suduza and Madakana of ward 14, ward 28 and parts of ward 22.
Many businesses cannot operate without electricity and are struggling to make ends meet. Members of the community have had to close their shops early to avoid being targets of crime.
Grade 12 learners cannot attend important evening classes to help prepare them for their final exams.
Local clinics and police stations are regularly unable to offer full 24-hour services.
A reliable supply of electricity is vital for boosting business, creating jobs, and delivering basic services. The residents of Mbhashe are being denied these opportunities and basic rights by the ANC government.
Where the DA governs, we eliminate corruption, ensuring that public funds are spent on delivering reliable services to the people.
The DA will be able to keep the lights on in Mbhashe and move this municipality forward again. Residents can fire the corrupt ANC on 3 August and hire the DA to bring change to Mbhashe.
