They have been called the greatest band in the world, and certainly most people have boogied to the sounds of Swedish duo Roxette’s pop tunes since they formed in the 1980s.
It’s time to once again Get Dressed for Success as Marie Fredriksson and Per Gessle bring their old favourites plus new material back to South Africa after last year’s seven sold out performances.
Last year the talented duo released Charm School, their first studio album in a decade, and in March this year, Travelling: Songs from Studios, Stages, Hotelrooms and Other Strange Places. The album entered the top ten in three countries, including Sweden and Germany. Travelling features a mix of both new songs and re-workings of previously unreleased older material.
Albums such as Joyride and Crash! Boom! Bang! contributed to them selling an estimated 60 million albums worldwide – and had people crooning “Hello, you fool, I love you” and “Sleeping in my car, I will undress you”, in showers and karaoke bars everywhere.
Generations of people have fallen in love to the crooning lyrics of Listen to Your Heart and wiped tears away over It Must Have Been Love, come and sing along to Roxette live in action at GrandWest to remind yourself why they achieved 19 UK Top 40 hits and several US Hot 100 hits.
Roxette hit the Mother City on Friday 8 June 2012 at 20h00 in the GrandWest Grand Arena, Cape Town. Tickets cost from R320 to R480 from Computicket.
