A MyCapeTown selected video about Buyel’Embo Village:
Lungile was born in 1987, 11th of July in a village in South Africa. He comes from the Xhosa culture. He grew and studied in Cape Town. At the age of 11 he fell in love with hip hop, which he sees as a tool to spread positive messages. Since then he has been performing poetry, theatre and music across the Western Cape and Eastern Cape. He recruits young ones to participate in the spoken word movement and has successfully written songs and discovered some of the most well-known young performers in the Western Cape. He is also a fashion designer and activist, because of his involvement in some challenges (gangsterism, xenophobia and teenage alcoholism) surrounding his area. Recently he is working on a project which will mainly focus on the spoken word (poets, musicians, motivational speakers, stand-up comedians, and audio dramas). He is also working on his album, which is about Africa.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
