A MyCapeTown selected video about Two Oceans Aquarium:
The sandy beaches of southern Mozambique and north-eastern South Africa are prime nesting areas for turtles. Every summer thousands of loggerhead turtle hatchlings crawl out from these nests and make their way into the ocean. They drift down the coast of South Africa in the warm Agulhas current and ride the Agulhas retroflection current back up to Madagascar. Unfortunately, some unlucky turtles are swept toward the coast by strong currents and end up stranded. Weak and dehydrated, they are in desperate need of a helping hand.
TWO OCEANS AQUARIUM
The Two Oceans Aquarium strives to foster love and respect for, and understanding of our oceans in order to inspire support for their future well-being. One of the many initiatives undertaken by the aquarium is to rescue and rehabilitate stranded turtles. Once they are rehydrated and their stomachs no longer filled with tiny fragments of plastic (as so many are) they are taken out to warmer waters near Cape Point and released back into the wild.
