1st Survivor Elgin Chardonnay vintage strikes Veritas Gold

19 November 2020 by Con Tributor
Survivor 2020 Veritas winning wines

1st Survivor Elgin Chardonnay vintage strikes Veritas Gold: Survivor’s first terroir driven Chardonnay from cool climate Elgin vineyards, has struck Veritas Gold at South Africa’s premier wine competition. The maiden Survivor Elgin Chardonnay 2019 vintage also won international Gold earlier this year at Mundus Vini Grand International Wine Awards in Germany.

The upshot of Survivor’s single minded vision to produce terroir specific wines, 2019 is the first Chardonnay vintage crafted from Elgin grapes and captures all the fruit concentration and fresh acidity typical of cooler vineyard sites. The barrel-fermented wine shows intense citrus and peach with floral undertones. It is fruity with mouth-filling richness and portrays its cool climate pedigree with crisp liveliness and a lingering finish.

Two Chenin Blancs from Swartland vineyards, Survivor Bushvine Reserve 2019 and Survivor 2020, were both awarded Veritas Silver Outstanding. Launched earlier this year, the maiden limited release Bushvine Chenin Blanc is a wine of great complexity, crafted from select parcels of low-yielding vineyards. The wine is creamy and rich and rewards with a delightful bouquet of apricot, peach and yellow apple enlivened by a hint of zesty lemon.

The barrel-fermented Survivor Chenin Blanc 2020 rewards with a medley of apricot, peach and soft tropical notes. The integrated palate shows rounded oak integration and fresh lime zest and minerality on the finish.

Raised in the Swartland as a tribute to the spirited indigenous Nguni cow that stands proud on every bottle, terroir driven Survivor wines are acclaimed both locally and internationally for their profound sense of place.
