2 Lady Kayakers Rescued

12 January 2021 by Alan

Alan Meiklejohn, NSRI Gordons Bay station commander, said:

At 16h03, Monday, 11 January, NSRI Gordons Bay duty crew were activated following reports of 2 ladies capsized on a kayak off-shore of Gordons Bay approximately a kilometer off-shore.

Our duty crew responded to the sea rescue station and the sea rescue craft Spirit of Surfski was launched.

GB Med Security ambulance services and NSRI rescue crew responded along the shoreline to act as spotters.

Our sea rescue craft arrived at the casualties, both females, a 29 year old and a 38 year old.

They were rescue onto our sea rescue craft and their kayak was recovered.

They were brought to our sea rescue station where GB Med paramedics treated them for exhaustion and they required no further assistance.

It appears that they had launched a kayak at Gordons Bay main beach and were swept away by off-shore winds after they capsized.

The operation was completed 7 minutes after the initial alarm was raised and our crew are commended for their swift response.
