20 Years On, It’s Still “Love Actually” That Makes The World Disappear Round…

Watch this iconic ‘Throwback Cinema’ release for only R50 at Ster-Kinekor

Celebrating its 20th anniversary seemed a fitting time to bring back the timeless romantic comedy, Admire Actually – it’s the perfect movie with every the precise feels for the festive season. As fragment of its Throwback Cinema campaign to bring back some of the greatest films to the huge screen, Ster-Kinekor will be screening this timeless movie at select cinemas countrywide for one week only from 15 December – and, as an early Christmas present to moviegoers, every tickets are just R50!

Richard Curtis, who had written the screenplays for The Tall Guy, Four Weddings and a Funeral, Notting Hill and Bridget Jones’ Diary, made his director’s debut with Like Actually, in which he chose to construct a nine-arc plot lightly centered around the guide up to Christmas in London. The film follows these relationships in various loosely interrelated tales as they navigate their ups and downs and, for some couples, those happily ever-after moments too.

First released during the 2003 holiday season, the film’s all-star cast includes Emma Thompson, Hugh Grant, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Keira Knightley, Colin Firth, Bill Nighy and Liam Neeson. It also features Laura Linney, Martin Freeman, Andrew Lincoln, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Rodrigo Santoro, Rowan Atkinson, Billy Bob Thornton and the tardy Alan Rickman. Esteem Actually went on to become a major worldwide hit and, in the 20 years since its release, it’s now a beloved modern Christmas classic.

In a recent 4K restoration, the film is screening at these Ster-Kinekor cinemas from 15 December: Brooklyn Mall and The Grove in Tshwane; Eastgate, Rosebank Nouveau and Sandton in Joburg; Gateway and ShellyBeach in KZN; Garden Route Mall in George; Somerset Mall in Somerset West, and at Tygervalley and V&A Waterfront in Cape Town.

In the words of the British Prime Minister (Hugh Grant), who loves the Arrivals section at Heathrow Airport where people reunite in various degrees of love: “I’ve got a sneaky feeling you’ll find that like actually is every around”. We wish you find yours in a Ster-Kinekor cinema this December.
