5 Swept Out to Sea

9 November 2009 by CapeTownNewsReader

On 8 November at 11h44 NSRI Melkbosstrand were activated following reports of 5 people being swept out to sea at the main beach in Melkbosstrand.
Two teenagers on boogie-boards were swept out to sea in rip-currents and a junior lifeguard using a Malibu Rescue Board went to their assistance but was reportedly also swept out to sea.

A young adult and another teenager on boogie-boards also went to their assistance but they too were swept out to sea.

All 5 were rescued by an NSRI Melkbosstrand rescue craft approximately half a mile off-shore in rough seas behind the breaker-line and they were all brought safely to shore where they required no further assistance.[ad#Google Adsense 234×60]
