In relations to the broader issue of substance abuse and gangsterism, Mitchell’s Plain SAPS continues its focus on gangsterism and drugs. A reflection of this is the following success achieved through a good relationship with the community structures such as the Street Committees and Neighbourhood Watches who continually inform the police of where crime is committed. This information is being followed up immediately.

Last night (Monday 2015-02-16) at about 22:30 Mitchell’s Plain Crime Prevention Unit arrested a 51 year old Tafelsig resident at a house in Honolulu Street, Tafelsig for possession of a large quantity of drugs. The members received information that drugs were being stored inside an informal dwelling on the premises.

During the searched the members discovered hidden inside the shack 5 999 small packets of tik, 1 346 mandrax tablets and 200 dagga cigarettes with an estimated street value of R 318 022, 00. The suspect will appear on Thursday (2015-02-19) in the Mitchell’s Plain Magistrate Court on the related charges.

The Mitchells Plain cluster police management want to thank all community structures of Mitchells Plain who joined the South African Police Service in combating crime, further we urge the community to remain vigilant and to contact their respective Sector Commanders and for those who have not yet joined our structures to join us by becoming part of their street committees in their respective streets.
