The Western Cape Department of Social Development (DSD) has obtained an unqualified audit with no material findings (clean audit) for the eighth consecutive year.
The provincial DSDs core mandate is to ensure the delivery of social welfare and community development services to the poor and vulnerable in partnership with stakeholders and civil society organisations.
The Department has been able to fulfil its core mandates by implementing programmes which prioritize children and families, support to victims of GBV, ECD, restorative services and services to vulnerable persons such as the elderly and disabled. This is fundamental to promoting the human rights, dignity and well-being of all the people we serve.
The Western Cape Minister of Social Development, Sharna Fernandez said, “We are mindful that all social service professionals and departmental officials are under increased pressure to serve a rapidly growing population amidst economic constraints, poverty, unemployment and crime. It is a testament to the collective efforts of these professionals that the department has performed as well as it has under these circumstances.
This audit outcome reaffirms that good and clean governance is at the centre of all our work, as we continue to provide a basket of social services to the people of the Western Cape.”
