The situation is all clear in Cape Town on the morning of June 30, with Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis joining commuters on a bustling MyCiTi commute into the CBD. The Mayor also received a briefing from safety officials at the City’s joint operations centre in Goodwood, which is monitoring the situation metro-wide. ‘It is business as usual in Cape Town today, and I was glad to join commuters on a busy Tableview to CBD route this morning with everything moving as normal. Our enforcement officials are spread out across the city today and will not allow any disruptions. Today Cape Town is showing that we are a city at work, a place of peace, progress, and the rule of law,’ said Mayor Hill-Lewis.
The City’s Metro-wide safety operations are being coordinated by the Disaster Coordinating Team (DCT) in Goodwood, with area-based Joint Operations Centres also activated.
The City is further participating in coordinated planning with SAPS and other partners.
‘All City services and other agencies are active and monitoring the situation. All roads are open and free-flowing, with no incidents related to xenophobic violence. We appeal to the public to please report any incidents to 021 480 7700 and do your part in not disseminating false information,’ said Alderman Smith.
Residents can report incidents to the Public Emergency Communication Centre on 021 480 7700 or logging by-law and traffic related complaints using the Safety and Security feature on the City App.
Residents can also use the anonymous tip-off line 0800 11 0077 to notify the City of any planned unrest.
