Africa Gamnes Week – Cape Town, December

18 October 2022 by Alan

Africa Games Week is the largest gathering of African game developers, exporters, and leaders in the world. Mobile Growth Association (MGA) is a global association providing mobile marketing professionals with frontline content and community events to help grow their app businesses. The two organisations are proud to announce they are coming together to help support the growing African Game Industry with everything they need to grow their existing games and launch new ones – including in the rapidly growing mobile market.

Africa Games Week takes place in Cape Town between 1 and 3 December 2022.

The African Game Industry is undergoing massive growth with new international co-production treaties signed, international studios and game houses set up, and learning and education facilities being launched. Reports show that of the 186 million African mobile game players, 63 million already pay for games. These numbers are expected to grow rapidly as the continent adopts digital currencies. With these growth opportunities in mind, MGA will bring mobile gaming-focused content to the AFRICA GAMES WEEK agenda.

“AFRICA GAMES WEEK is bringing together the African Game Industry to help developers make connections and build a community, which is well-aligned with MGA’s mission,” says Jen Laloup, Co-founder and CEO of MGA. “MGA’s greatest strength is our community, and we are excited to bring the insight our global mobile gaming experts share at our events, to AFRICA GAMES WEEK.”

“AFRICA GAMES WEEK is excited to be extending our reach and developing an advanced understanding of the MOBILE Industry through the inclusion of a leading international partner, Mobile Growth Association,” says Rex Bowden, Co-Founder & Director of Africa Games Week. “MGA has taken their expertise to other leading events around the world, such as the BIG (Brazil Indie Games) Festival, and they run events in US, Canada, Turkey and other fast developing regions.”

“MOBILE Games are dominant across Africa with over 80% of games developed for mobile by studios across the continent,” adds Event Director, Alexandra Pattison. “It is thus super important to have a dedicated conference under the AFRICA GAMES WEEK banner targeting the mobile games industry.”
