This past weekend at the SA20 press conference in Cape Town, Rashid Khan exuded confidence that his side has all that it takes to be champions. “I believe, we have a very balanced team, we’ve got a strong group of cricketers who know their roles very well.”
Khan claimed that the upcoming competition in South Africa will provide a good opportunity for everyone involved. “It’s a great opportunity to be involved in this competition. Happy to be here in South Africa and looking for the competition to start.”
When asked about the pressure of the game, Khan commented, “We can only try. As a team, we need to be focused and as long as we keep things simple.
Result is something which is not in our hands, but we can give our hundred per cent. MI has a very strong cricket ethos and ideology, and we will look to embrace that and play the way MI has continued to play over the years. We are a team looking forward to doing our best and bringing smiles to the faces of our fans.”
Responding to a query about the pressure of captaincy in SA20 Khan commented, “I think not. I have already led the Afghanistan side in some games, so the experience of captaincy is there. Also, being vice-captain, I have always been working closely with the leadership group and sharing my inputs on and off the pitch. So, I don’t think there will be any added pressure on me.”
The 24-year-old leg-spinner – who has already picked up 392 T20 wickets – further shared his views on why it is important to start the competition on a winning note. “Starting the competition at home ground will be an added advantage for us as well. Overall, I think it will be a good game of cricket. It is important to start the campaign on a positive note. It would be hard in terms of finding the right team combination. But the team needs to keep things simple. Many players in our side have experience playing in other leagues so they need to enjoy the game and just do the basics right. I am super excited about this competition to start.”
MI Cape Town will play the inaugural match of the SA20 tournament against Paarl Royals on 10th January 2023 at the MI CT home ground – Newlands Cricket Ground.
General stand tickets at the ground have now been sold out, leaving only premium seating available from Western Province Cricket Club in the private members club pavilion. Fans can purchase premium WPCC tickets for R300 and WPCC suites tickets can be purchased at “A Gate” (Gate 10) at Newlands stadium.
