Ajax Cape Town’s Vodacom League team beat Oriental Birds 3-1 at the New Horizon Stadium, Plettenberg Bay on Saturday to move into sixth place, within striking distance of the leading pack on the log standings.
The young Urban Warriors lifted their game against “Birds” to end a two-match losing streak and put themselves one point behind the fifth placed Hanover Park FC and just two points off the three teams tied on 33 points, Cape Town All Stars, Glendene FC and Peacemakers FC.
Goals by Zaakier Williams, Michael Kwong and Ileyaas Wessen sealed the result for Ajax Cape Town, now the coach will focus on his next challenge when his team plays Salt River FC in order to reach his target of six points form the two games.
Three points from the Salt River game could push Ajax into a top three position should the challenging teams slip up along the way.
Ian Taylor the Ajax Cape Town coach is confident that his charges can turn-around their recent slump in form and the win against Oriental Birds FC is the first step in the right direction.
