Ajax trio for Bafana
Three Urban Warriors have been named in the Bafana squad ahead of planned friendlies in January 2012. They are George Maluleka, Granwald Scott and Nazeer Allie.
The trio have been instrumental in the performances of the Ajax Cape Town team.
George Maluleka slotted into the Ajax system with ease since his arrival from Supersport FC in 2009. He is equally comfortable in the midfield and attack therefore offering his coaches options when implementing their game plan.
Granwald Scott, an Ajax Youth Development product was considered to be the best player in South African football in the midfield anchor role by the renowned Dutch Coach Foppe de Haan. Scott’s performances since last season have attracted the attention of the local football fraternity and he was rewarded with the captaincy of the Urban Warriors for the 2011-2012 season.
Nazeer Allie won his call up after sterling performances in the back four of Ajax Cape Town since 2005. He made his name in the right back position however his versatility has seen him slot into the central defensive role alongside Thato Mokeke and Matthew Booth respectively this season. Recently, he won the “Man of the Match” award for a great performance against Golden Arrows.
George Comitis the Ajax CEO said, “We are proud of the selection of our players for the Bafana squad. All three players have put in high quality performances over the last two seasons. The selection of Allie and Scott is long overdue and well deserved.”
The South African national team will play friendlies during January 2012 as Bafana Bafana prepare for the 2013 Orange African Cup of Nations and for the 2014 World Cup qualification games. These friendlies allow the Bafana head coach and opportunity to identify players ahead of the qualification rounds of the mentioned tournaments.
The teams earmarked for friendly games are those who intend to set-up training camps in South Africa ahead of the 2012 Orange African Cup of Nations to be held in Gabon- Equatorial Guinea.
The planned friendlies include a game against Equatorial Guinea in the new Stadium and will assist Equatorial Guinea in their preparations ahead of the 2012 Orange African Cup of Nations tournament followed by games against Ghana and Zambia.
