For this past week police in Mitchell’s Plain Cluster clamped down on criminals in their policing precinct through various operations. A total of 79 houses were searched in the cluster. A total of 493 suspects were arrested for various crimes in the policing precinct.
A total of 209 suspects were arrested on cases relating to the possession of drugs which include tik, heroin, mandrax and dagga. The suspects will appear in various courts on the drug related charges.
Police also clamped down on illegal liquor outlets, seven operations were held with three suspects arrested on liquor related charges. Three Suspects were arrested for crimes against woman and children.
Police in Mitchell’s Plain Cluster confiscated six firearms and arrested 13 suspects for the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition as well as possession of prohibited firearm. The suspects will apear in various courts on charges relating to the illegal possession of firearms, ammunition and prohibited firearms.
On Thursday, 3 December 2015 Saps Steenberg received information about a firearm at St Ambrose Street, Lavender Hill. Upon their arrival they found a Taurus pistol; 8 x 9mm rounds of ammunition; 1 x magazine and two waist belts. The serial number of the firearm has been filed off.
The items were handed in at Steenberg as abandoned and no arrests were made. On Sunday 2015/11-29 at about 23h30 an attempted hijacking was reported where the suspect fled the scene leaving the firearm behind after he fled the scene, a norinco pistol with no serial number was handed in on the attempted hijacking case.
A total of 26 suspects were also arrested on warrants of arrest on various crimes during tracing operations. Most suspects also made their court appearances and some still have to make their appearances in a Magistrate’s Court after they were arrested on charges relating to possession of ammunition, assault, robbery, fraud, drunk driving, possession of suspected stolen property, housebreaking and theft, murder, armed robbery etc.
Police are engaging with their neighborhood watches whilst patrolling in their respective areas. Street and court committees are actively involved in the continuous fight against crime.
