The Blouberg beach-front has received a lot of media attention over the last few weeks. This was in the form of the printed press, radio interviews and social media, that culminated in a formal invite for a site inspection, that should have been facilitated today, 14 March 2016 but was cancelled at the last minute by Alderman Walker’s office.
During the course of such a radio interview, Alderman Walker representing the city fathers, highlighted that the Blaauwberg Beach front, was in fact a priority for the City of Cape Town and that maintenance and rehabilitation was well under-way, a statement that was then and still is contested today.
The cancellation of today’s walkabout does nothing to confirm the city urgent priority and can only allow a reasonable mind to deduce that this cancellation is as (i) a result of the local press objecting to being excluded in this walkabout or just perhaps, (ii) that the Alderman realising that being publicly called out was not grandstanding as initially reported, but actually based on fact and that the City did not want the National press to witness first hand and or (iii) as a result of the Mayor being called out publicly, city officials are now barred from interacting with this rate payers association and by default this community.
The walkabout will now commence at 14H00 on THURSDAY the 17th of March 2016, from the Dolphin beach toilets on the Beach Front.
