Matthew Booth is racing against time to recover from a minor injury that could rule him out of the Cape Derby against Santos on Saturday evening.
Booth suffered a minor irritation of his meniscus during the warm-up ahead of the Maritzburg United v Ajax Cape Town game at the Harry Gwala Stadium.
However Maarten Stekelenburg is confident that Booth will recover in time to start against Santos. He said, “Booth was pencilled in to start the game but was forced to withdraw at the last moment after he felt discomfort during the warm-up.
The injury is a minor irritation, and we withdrew Matthew from playing our last game so that we could evaluate the injury.
I am confident that he will start against Santos. Matthew plays a major role in our game-plan and his experience is key to keeping calm heads on match day.
We also have our captain Granwald Scott and Lebogang Manyama available for this game. Scott returns from suspension while Manyama recovered from a minor niggle.
All our players trained this week and the competition for places ensures the quality within the squad.
I am spoilt for choice to find my starting eleven but this is good for the team and the club.”
