Call for Submissions: Local Publisher of Children’s & YA Books

Imagnary House is a boutique publishing house for children’s books and young-adult literature in South Africa.

Imagnary House is focused on building a larger market for local children’s book and young-adult book authors and illustrators, by both igniting the local readership and engaging with international readers, media and literary agents. Submit to join a family of authors that are inviting readers to dive into delectable stories amongst roaring monsters, dragons, magicians, Vikings, and more, discovering what it means to be human with heart-warming tales of friendship, courage, love, and family.

A call for submissions

As of 23 May 2024, Imagnary House has opened their submissions and are looking to build up their publication list for the next two years. Submissions close on 30 September 2024 at midnight. Please note that:

Unsolicited submissions outside of this period will not be considered.
Submissions now require a nominal payment of R100 per author to be considered – this is to cover a small Submissions team’s time and effort in reviewing and analysing your manuscripts.
Imagnary House is looking for submissions in the following genres:
- Children’s picture books (fiction and non-fiction)
- Children’s chapter books (fiction and non-fiction)
- Children’s comic books
- Science-fiction and fantasy novels

How to submit

Submit: Submit your manuscript to us via Query Manager.
Pay: Ensure payment is made. Submissions with no payments attached will not be considered.
1. Once your manuscript is submitted, you will receive a link to make payment (or you can do so ahead of time at this link). Please make payment using the same name and email address that you submit your book with.
2. Please note that submissions now require a nominal payment of R100 to be considered – this is to cover a small Submissions team’s time and effort in reviewing and analysing your manuscripts.
3. If you cannot afford the payment, please email Imagnary House at hello@imagnaryhouse.com. Some evidence may be required, but exceptions can be made for authors who cannot afford this, within reason.
4. Only one payment is due per author, not per submission. So you can make multiple submissions, but are only required to make a single payment.
