The Forced Removal of District Six (1966): On February 11, 1966, the apartheid regime declared District Six—a vibrant, multi-racial neighborhood near the city center—a “whites-only” area under the Group Areas Act. Over 60,000 residents were forcibly relocated to the barren Cape Flats, and their homes were bulldozed.
