The Cape Argus and Technological Innovation: Established in 1857 by Saul Solomon, Richard William Murray, and Bryan Henry Darnell, the Cape Argus holds a distinct place in South African media history. It was the first local newspaper to utilize the telegraph for news gathering, revolutionizing the speed at which information was reported to the public. Traditionally published as an afternoon newspaper to provide commuters with end-of-day news, the Argus developed a massive regional following through its focused coverage of local community affairs, municipal politics, and regional sport.
