Cape Town Boys, Locnville Sign with Sony

5 May 2010 by CapeTownNewsReader

South African duo Locnville has signed a worldwide deal with Sony Music International. Locnville were the “buzz act” at the Midem International Music Conference in Cannes in January, which sparked international interest from major and independent labels around the world.

Locnville’s debut single and album, both entitled “Sun In My Pocket”, will be released around the world on Sony”s Jive Records imprint over the coming months, except in the United Kingdom where it will be released on Sony”s Epic Records imprint.

Jive is the home to some of the world’s biggest recording artists including Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears, Usher and R Kelly. Epic is the home of Scouting For Girls, JLS, Paloma Faith & the Glee Soundtrack.

Commenting on the signing, Kevin Lawrie, President of Sony Music International, Europe & Africa said: “The Locnville guys have written and recorded the album on their own and approached it from an independent standpoint. It’s incredible what they have accomplished to date, working with Just Music in South Africa. Sony Music’s role is to now broadcast this great story to the rest of the world.”

“Signing with Sony/Jive for the world has really proved for us what determination and hard work can bring. To be on the same roster as so many fantastic artists is literally a dream come true and the passion that Kevin and the Sony/Jive team have shown Locnville is truly amazing,” commented Brian Chaplin, one half of the band.

Partner Andrew Chaplin adds: “Landing a deal with Sony/Jive is an absolute dream come true! We’ve been working long and hard for this, so to finally have it happen is just phenomenal to say the least. We’re honoured to be on the same label as so many of our favourite artists”.
