Local football rivals Ajax Cape Town (red and white) and Engen Santos (yellow) met each other in a friendly at the inaugural event of the Sail Stadefrance managed Cape Town Stadium, on 23 January 2010. All 20 000 tickets for the event were sold to fans eager to catch a first glimpse of the ZAR4.5bn stadium. The event is the first of 3 events planned to test the stadium’s readiness ahead of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in June.
In this high resolution panorama of the stadium, you can see the glass roof, "Ring of Fire" (i.e. spot-lights) and the installation of temporary seating, ahead of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in June, which boosts the stadium’s capacity to 68 000 seats. You’ll also notice that there’s a few too many players on the pitch thanks to my stitching software.
