Church Street is a short but heavily travelled north/south street in Lower Manhattan in New York City. It runs along the eastern edge of the site of the World Trade Center destroyed in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. Its southern end is at Trinity Place, of which it is a continuation. Its northern end is at Canal Street, but a few blocks before Canal Street it connects to the southern end of Sixth Avenue. Trinity Place, Church Street and Sixth Avenue form a continuous four-lane through route from Lower Manhattan to Central Park. The Eighth Avenue subway line runs below Church Street from Liberty Street to Sixth Avenue.

The Church Street Station post office at 90 Church Street served the World Trade Center’s 10048 ZIP code as well as the surrounding area, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, as is the Canal Street Station post office at the north end of Church Street. Other notable buildings include the rear of the 1765 St. Paul’s Chapel, the residential tower under construction at 99 Church Street, and St. Peter’s Church.

Vesey Street (pronounced VEE-zee) is a street in New York City that runs east-west in Lower Manhattan. Prior to the construction of the World Trade Center it ran as continuous street from Broadway to the Hudson River.
As of 2009, it runs as four segments:
From Broadway to Church Street for vehicles and pedestrians.
From Church Street to West Street for pedestrians only. This portion was widened during construction of the World Trade Center, and separates WTC on its south side from the Verizon Building on its north.
In Battery Park City, from West Street to North End Avenue for vehicles and pedestrians.
A short pedestrian path west of North End Avenue connecting the street to River Terrace and the Irish Hunger Memorial.
The eastern extension of the street at Broadway is Ann Street. Adjacent to Vesey Street is St. Paul’s Chapel, the Church Street Station Post Office, and the World Trade Center site. The street next to the World Trade Center was closed to pedestrians after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 for several months, and has not yet been reopened to vehicular traffic. A structure left standing after the collapse of the adjacent buildings is known as the Survivors’ Staircase which is being preserved. In the area from Church Street to Washington Street, tourists attempt to view the ongoing excavations and construction, pending a future museum or memorial at the site. The World Trade Center PATH station is accessible from the street at the World Trade Center site.
Two parts of Vesey Street connect with an enclosed pedestrian bridge which crosses over West Street to the World Financial Center. Just past the western end of the street is the Irish Hunger Memorial. This end of the street is in the northern part of Battery Park City.
Notable buildings include the Art Nouveau Old New York Evening Post Building.
