The Castle of Good Hope is a star-shaped fort built by the Dutch East India Company at the edge of the embryonic settlement of Cape Town, starting 1666. Originally located near the sea’s edge, land reclamation in the area means that the castle is nearer the city centre today. Within the castle lies the ‘de Kat’ balcony. The castle is declared a Heritage site
