Cape Town’s transport regulations branch has turned to WhatsApp to streamline communication with the city’s public transport industry.

In a statement, the city’s branch for transport regulations says minibus and metered taxi operators can use the WhatsApp number (083 375 1725) to confirm their operational status.

“Previously, public transport operators had to submit their requests and supporting documents in-person or via e-mail, which had to be captured manually,” says mayoral committee member for urban mobility Rob Quintas.

Multiple injuries as Ceres Rail train avoids collision at Cape Town port: Sixteen passengers were injured when a Ceres Rail Company tourist train made a sudden halt to avoid colliding with stationary Transnet cargo carriages at Cape Town port, Cape {town} Etc reports.

According Ceres Rail Company, on its 160km round-trip to the Elgin Railway Market, the train departed from Cape Town on Saturday morning.
