Two weeks after I took this picture a fatal shark attack occurred here. Even in the midst of beauty danger is never far away. Fish Hoek is on the warmer side of the peninsular so takes advantage of Indian Ocean currents. Unfortunately the sharks like the warm waters too.

Fun Western Cape Fact: Stellenbosch is known as the City of Oaks as a result of the planting of a large number of oak trees soon after it was established by founder Simon van der Stel. Their shade now lords over its streets and homes in the present day.
