Dear Editor
The CapeBPO awards on Friday honoured achievements in the field of business process outsourcing (BPO), which refers to when companies outsource business processes to a third-party company. The primary goal is to cut costs, free up time, and focus on core aspects of the business.
Almost 70 000 people now work in call centres across the City of Cape Town, servicing domestic and international clients. In two and a half years the industry has created an excess of 15 000 jobs. In addition, the international BPO market in Cape Town last year contributed around R14 billion to the metro’s economy.
These successes are due in large part to the funding provided by the Western Cape Department of Economic Development and Tourism in partnership with the City of Cape Town’s funding of and partnership with CapeBPO, which has overseen the work-ready training of thousands of young Capetonians for the market. In a country where unemployment is such a huge problem, this once again shows that the Western Cape is committed addressing this problem through creating an environment that is business friendly.
The Democratic Alliance congratulates all the winners at this prestigious industry awards evening. These awards show the breadth of talent we have in the Business Processing space.
