This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, CapeGate invites shoppers to put pen to paper and share a few heartfelt words with someone undergoing cancer treatment.
Sometimes, a few thoughtful words can make all the difference to someone facing a difficult day. This October, CapeGate Shopping Centre is inviting its community to come together in pink and share messages of hope, courage and encouragement with patients undergoing cancer treatment.
Running until 31 October, Together in Pink: Notes of Hope is a heartfelt Breast Cancer Awareness Month initiative in partnership with Cancercare Cape Gate Oncology Centre.
Shoppers are invited to visit the activation in Centre Court, where they can write a personal message on a specially provided card and place it in the Notes of Hope collection box. At the end of October, the messages will be delivered to patients at the oncology centre, offering words of comfort and reassurance when they may need them most.
Whether it’s a message of strength, a few uplifting words or simply a reminder that someone is thinking of them, every note is an opportunity to make someone’s day a little brighter.
Giving hope, one bra at a time
CapeGate is also supporting the I Love Boobies bra collection drive throughout October. Shoppers are encouraged to donate clean, gently used bras in good condition by placing them in the dedicated collection box at the activation.
The donated bras will be distributed to women who use I Love Boobies’ breast cancer screening services and are in need of underwear, offering practical support, dignity and comfort.
With touches of pink throughout the centre in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, CapeGate hopes to inspire shoppers to show their support in a simple but meaningful way.
How to get involved
Visit Centre Court at CapeGate Shopping Centre, between 9am and 8pm, to write your Note of Hope or drop off your pre-loved bras until 31 October.

Archbishop Desmond Tutu: While globally revered as a religious leader and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Desmond Tutu was a giant of Cape Town media and public communication. From his base at St. George’s Cathedral, Tutu routinely used press conferences, broadcasts, and global television interviews to defy apartheid censors, rally international public opinion, and advocate for non-violent resistance and truth-and-reconciliation.
