Quentin Botha, NSRI Table Bay station commander, said: At 19h24, Wednesday, 5 April, NSRI Table Bay and NSRI Bakoven were alerted following reports to the NSRI EOC (Emergency Operations Centre) from OPBC (Oceana Power Boat Club) of a ski-boat taking on water off-shore of Green Point Lighthouse.
NSRI shore crew were immediately dispatched to investigate while NSRI crew, conducting routine maintenance at NSRI Table Bay rescue station, onboard the NSRI rescue craft Rescue 3, prepared to respond.
NSRI Table Bay and NSRI Bakoven duty crews were activated.
It was then reported by the TNPA (Transnet National Ports Authority) Port Control that a charter cruise boat had taken 2 men onboard their charter boat, Tigress, when they had came across the casualty boat taking on water and which then capsized.
All crew of the casualty boat were accounted for and both men were safe and not injured.
Rescue 3 arrived on the scene where a fishing boat had taken the capsized casualty boat under tow.
NSRI took over that tow, the casualty boat was then righted, and towed to OPBC by NSRI.
Just off-shore of OPBC the fishing boat took over the towline from Rescue 3 and the casualty boat was towed to the OPBC slipway and recovered.
