City Further Invests in Bellville’s Future

Bellville’s strength as a key economic hub in Cape Town continues to grow, says Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Growth, Alderman James Vos, citing new data for the region.

The figures from the Greater Tygerberg Partnership (GTP), a Special Purpose Vehicle funded by the City, highlight the scale of economic activity taking place in the region, with approximately 3 500 small and medium-sized enterprises, 250 industrial businesses, nine tertiary institutions and 10 hospitals operating within the broader Bellville area.

Last week, a number of these entrepreneurs made their way to the Business Hub activation at the Bellville Civic Centre. The Business Hub team assisted 31 entrepreneurs and business owners with support services, compliance guidance and funding information. The Hub also brought partners including SARS, Productivity SA, the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) and Business Partners who assisted attendees with specialised advice and referrals.

‘When you look at the sheer scale of movement, business activity, education and healthcare infrastructure already concentrated in Bellville, you quickly realise this is one of Cape Town’s most important and dynamic economic hubs,’ said Alderman Vos.

Through the City of Cape Town’s Economic Growth Directorate, the City supports the work of the GTP, which focuses on place-making, urban regeneration, investment promotion and strengthening partnerships between the public and private sectors in the Bellville region.

This support will continue in the 2026/27 financial year with the City allocating R15,5 million to the GTP.

‘Place-making is far more than beautification. It is about creating environments where people want to invest, open businesses and create employment, study, visit and spend time. This funding reflects our commitment to unlocking Bellville’s enormous economic potential through strong partnerships and targeted interventions.

‘The area’s strategic location and transport connectivity continue to position Bellville as a major gateway for future investment and development.

‘For many years, people used to jokingly say, ‘Come to Bellville and CY,’ referring to the old CY number plate. But I believe that phrase is taking on a whole new meaning today because people are increasingly coming to Bellville to see opportunity, investment, innovation and a region that is actively evolving into a preferred live-work-play destination.

‘Ongoing collaboration between the City, businesses, institutions and community stakeholders is helping to build confidence in the area and unlock further economic opportunities.

‘From factory floors to boardrooms, there is a strong sense of momentum in Bellville. The story of this area is still being written, but I firmly believe some of its best chapters are still ahead,’ said Alderman Vos.
