City Hands Over Homes

22 October 2026 by Con Tributor

The City has handed over homes to 46 beneficiaries today, 22 October 2026, and an additional 21 units yesterday at its Kanonkop Phase 2 housing project in Atlantis. The occasion marks an important milestone for the beneficiaries, who can look forward to the security and stability that comes with having a place to call home. The City remains committed to delivering housing opportunities and improving the living conditions of residents through its housing delivery.

‘Receiving a home is a significant milestone for any family. It provides a foundation for stability, dignity and the opportunity to build a better future. We are pleased to celebrate this important moment with the beneficiaries of Kanonkop Phase 2.

‘Over the coming months, we will continue handing over homes to the approved beneficiaries. A total of 422 Breaking New Ground (BNG) homes will be constructed here and handed over to qualifying beneficiaries. The City remains committed to completing this project and to advancing housing delivery across Atlantis and in areas across the metro. We thank all stakeholders for their support in making this project a success,’ said Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements, Councillor Carl Pophaim.

The handover formed part of the broader Mayoral Service Blitz, bringing City services and engagement directly to communities. Other activities include a maintenance day at Edinburgh Place Community Residential Units and a Deed-to-Door outreach initiative, which aims to engage residents and assist eligible beneficiaries with their title deeds.

Beneficiaries of City housing projects are selected in accordance with the City’s Housing Allocation Policy and Housing Needs Register to ensure housing opportunities are made available in a fair and transparent manner that prevents queue jumping and to those who qualify for housing as per the South African legislation.
