City Parks and partners to create outdoor gyms in public open spaces

16 December 2011 by CapeTownNewsReader

Councillor Beverley Schafer, Ward Councillor for the Atlantic Seaboard area, oversaw the handover of equipment as part of a project to create outdoor gyms in public open spaces.

Outdoor Gyms by Plan on Art – a national gym equipment manufacturer – handed over the equipment during a special ceremony on the Sea Point Promenade, which is one of the outdoor gym ovals on Tuesday, 13 December 2011

Outdoor Gyms and the BASA have a national vision of collaborating with the private and public sector in addressing health and fitness issues in South Africa. Together they recognised the need for recreational facilities like outdoor gyms across the city so that everyone can have the opportunity to live a healthier lifestyle.

The gym pieces have been designed with maximum safety in mind. The apparatus is robust, weather-proof, colourful, fun, low-maintenance and as vandal-proof as possible. These pieces are suitable for adults of all ages and fitness levels and no previous experience is necessary. They were designed with South Africa’s wildlife in mind, reflecting some of the familiar animals within local wildlife parks.
