Statement by the Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Waste Management, Alderman Grant Twigg:
As the Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Waste Management, I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to all waste services staff who continued to serve our residents during the recent adverse weather conditions.
Our waste collection teams have shown incredible dedication and resilience, working through challenging conditions to ensure that services continue and that our city remains as clean as possible. Their commitment does not go unnoticed, and I thank each and every staff member for their hard work on the ground.
Despite our team’s best efforts, the impact of the storm may still result in temporary delays and backlogs in refuse collection in some areas.
I ask residents to please be patient as our teams work diligently to catch up on any outstanding collections. I encourage residents to report any missed collections to the City’s Call Centre at 0860 103 089.
I also want to remind residents that they play a critical role in helping to prevent flooding, particularly as we head into winter.
Flooding is often exacerbated by littering and illegal dumping, which block stormwater drains and infrastructure. I urge all residents to dispose of their waste responsibly by using bins and approved disposal facilities. Also, recycle where possible and take your recyclables to the City’s drop off facilities. Keeping our streets clean is not just about appearance; it is essential to protecting our communities during heavy rains.
We remain committed to delivering essential services and appreciate the understanding and cooperation of residents during this time.
