Stellenbosch producer Longridge Wine Estate and winemaker Jasper Raats celebrated an impressive performance at the prestigious Top 100 SA Wines Awards. All eight wines submitted for consideration were awarded, including the 2015 Chardonnay, 2014 Pinotage, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chenin Blanc as well as Jasper’s 2014 Cuvée Rika Pinot Noir and Driefontein Sauvignon Blanc.

The soon-to-be-released single vineyard 2015 Die Plêk Cinsault scored best in class and was crowned Grand Cru National Champion. This Cinsault forms part of the exclusive Jasper Raats Single Vineyard Wines.

“You cannot ask for a better start for a new wine like the Cinsault. It is incredible to receive this kind of feedback before a wine has even been released. I am also very pleased with the performance of the Longridge Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot as both offer great value for money and superb quality and have not always in the past received the recognition due to them. This proves that the Helderberg climate and terroir are perfect to grow these varietals,” said an ecstatic Cellar Master Jasper Raats.

Both the Longridge Cabernet Sauvignon and Longridge Merlot were awarded double platinum, while the Longridge Chenin Blanc received a double gold award. Double silver awards went to the Driefontein Sauvignon Blanc, the Cuvée Rika Pinot Noir, Longridge Chardonnay and Longridge Pinotage, which saw them qualifying for the National Wine Challenge.

The farm was first registered in 1841 and is celebrating its 175 year anniversary this year, which makes the great result even sweeter, according to Raats. Longridge has evolved into a graceful home to a range of elegantly crafted wines and exceptional culinary experiences. Jasper Raats has been spearheading the winemaking team and with Hendrien de Munck follow a philosophy that revolves around organic and biodynamic farming. His unique approach has resulted in awards from prestigious competitions and accolades from internationally acclaimed wine critics. The farm will be releasing its first organically certified wines this year.

To taste these award-winning wines, visit the Longridge tasting room on the corner of Helderberg and Eikendal Road off the R44 between Stellenbosch and Somerset West or visit www.longridge.co.za.
