Coalition of Corruption holds illegal emergency meeting

15 October 2022 by Alan

Dear Editor

On Friday, 14 October at 17:45, the speaker of the Knysna Council called an urgent meeting for 8pm.

This was to extend an existing controversial security contract.

The DA advised the Speaker that the meeting was not properly convened, given its virtual nature and extremely short notice.

The DA refused to join the illegal meeting. The EFF also did not attend.

The illegal meeting proceeded when KIM agreed to attend, thus providing the Coalition of Corruption an opportunity to claim they had reached a quorum.

At the meeting, the controversial security contract was extended for one month, from 14 October 2022 to 14 November 2022. It would otherwise have expired at midnight.

Furthermore, no public notice was given and the proposed extension of the contract was not advertised.

This presents further evidence that voting for a small party just delivers an ANC government and those small parties cannot hold the irretrievably corrupt ANC to account.

Last night, the ANC/KIM/PA/PBI drove another nail into the coffin of good governance in Knysna. The people of Knysna deserve better than this and the DA will work tirelessly to restore efficient and transparent government.

The DA will approach the Acting Municipal Manager to deliver our objection to the illegal meeting and any decisions that were taken there. Failing any action, we will consider our options.

Regards

Dr Dion George MP
DA Constituency Head, Knysna
