Communty first as 2011 winds down

16 December 2011 by Alan

December month is a busy month for everyone, its time to plan the holiday season, plan activities for the kids, plan time for the purchasing of Christmas presents, to plan for Christmas and if you travelling the travel plan has to ensure a hassle-free trip.

At Ajax Cape Town the month of December is also a busy one, filled with activities on and off the pitch.

The Urban Warriors hosted the local media on two occasions, one a lunch at the V&A Waterfront then last Thursday Ajax hosted the annual Media XI v Ajax XI at Ikamva.

The lunch was an occasion to remember as some media lost track of time and only left after 4PM to ensure their publications met the deadlines.

The football game was a spectacle in it own right.

Shibobo’s, flicks and tricks were all part of the “entertainment” dished out by the local media team that included a few house-hold names like; Rodney Bolla Reiners (Argus), Zaid Omar (ShowreelFX), Seraj “Happy Feet” Jones (Son), Ayanda Ndamane (Argus), Phiri Cawe (INL), Sizwe Mbede(Soccerpages), Khaya (Soccer Laduma) and Percival Young (ETV) to name a few.

It’s not always about the adults; on December 08 Ajax hosted the kids of Chatsworth AME Primary School.

This Primary school is about 23km outside Malmesbury on a small holding in an informal settlement. Ajax Cape Town invited all the school teachers and their volunteers to watch Ajax Cape Town play Supersport United at the Cape Town Stadium. This was the first ever visit to the stadium for most of the children in the group. Ajax then followed-up the invitation by extending the stadium tour to 50 of the Chatsworth learners.

They were also invited to the Ajax Cape Town, Bloemfontein Celtic game at Cape Town Stadium. The kids will finished their December fairytale by visiting Ikamva – Ajax’s training grounds on the 8th of December.

They will be given a full tour of the Ajax Cape Town training facilities and also an opportunity to meet the Ajax professional players.

The next day (Dec 09) the Urban Warriors hosted Lynedoch United a small team from the Cape Winelands District that was formed in 2010, all the club’s players come from the neighboring farming areas in Lynedoch. The team has about 60 registered players playing for their U11 – U18 teams.

They enjoyed a full day’s coaching from Ajax Cape Town’s coaches using all available training equipment at the club followed the opportunity to watch the training session of the Ajax professional team and also they had the opportunity to meet the players who hosted an autograph session during the 1st team lunch break.

From the 12 – 15th December Ajax Cape Town is hosting their well-known coaching clinics at Ikamva. The first two days will cater for boys aged 6-10years old followed by clinics for boys aged 10 – 15 years old on Wednesday and Thursday.

The kids are put through their paces on the Ajax training fields right next to the professional team, enjoying the Ajax experience, using all the facilities afforded an Ajax Cape Town player i.e. dressing rooms, restaurant training fields, gym and medical department (if required). They also get to meet and the pro-team players during their 2 day training at Ikamva. At the end of the clinics each participant receives and certificate of participation, a goodie bag and Ajax merchandise presented after a lucky prize draw.

The program for the remainder of the month includes the following.

The Red Hill Christmas Project (December 15, 2011). Ajax Cape Town will make a second visit to the Red Hill area above Simonstown. This time we will be extending the Christmas spirit to all the kids in the area, but the focus will be on all the kids at the Red Hill Pre-School where they will be treated with some lunch, toys and other donations complements of MTN/Ajax Cape Town for Christmas.

Players not travelling to the Ajax Cape Town v Golden Arrows game will be at a MTN store re-opening at Canal Walk on December, 17 2011 from 13h00 to 14h00 to meet and greet their fans

Then on December 21, 2011 Ajax Cape Town will show our support for young people who have gone rehabilitation program for substance abuse. Ajax community scheme have been working with the hospital on a special program that includes life skills and physical activities with a group of 30 kids for the past five weeks. To close on a year that had a lot of challenges to the kids we will be sharing a festive season lunch with them.

Later that evening the Urban Warriors will be hosting a Double Header with a difference, a bumper evening of entertainment and football at the Cape Town Stadium.

Ajax play Black Leopards at 19h30, however the Urban Warriors is planning a special event for their fans to end off 2011 in style.

All will be revealed before the end of this week.
