The DA is deeply saddened by the untimely death of five individuals, including a British doctor amid the ongoing taxi strike.
A 40-year-old British national who, accompanied by two family members, tragically lost his life after taking a wrong turn from the airport and encountering violent protests in the city’s Nyanga township, located near Cape Town International Airport.
Our hearts go out to the families and loved ones of all those who lost their lives during this distressing time. We extend our heartfelt condolences to each family affected. Our thoughts and prayers are with them.
It is our sincere hope that future protests can be conducted peacefully and responsibly, without causing damage to property or resorting to violence that may lead to injury or loss of life.
As Cape Town continues to thrive as a global tourist destination, we urge all parties involved to find a swift resolution to the ongoing taxi strike. We believe that an immediate end to this strike is crucial to ensure that overseas tourists do not have to fear visiting South Africa and can fully enjoy the beauty and diversity our country has to offer.
We call upon all stakeholders to engage in constructive dialogue and work towards a peaceful resolution that addresses the concerns of all parties involved. It is only through unity and understanding that we can create an environment where safety and prosperity coexist.
The DA remains committed to promoting peace, harmony, and the well-being of all individuals. We stand in solidarity with the people of Cape Town and South Africa.
