Cox Yeats’ success continues following the announcement that Cox Yeats Attorneys has been named the 2023 Law Firm of the Year for expertise in Insurance Law and Real Estate Law in the 14th Edition of Best Lawyers® in South Africa. In addition, 13 of the firm’s partners and one consultant, garnered recognition in their areas of expertise, with Alastair Hay named Lawyer of the Year (Construction Law), by the legal profession’s oldest and most respected peer-review title.

“Cox Yeats has had an amazing year at every level,” says managing partner, Andrew Clark. “From expanding our national footprint to include a third office in Cape Town, to being recognised as Law Firm of the Year (Insurance Law and Real Estate Law), with Alastair Hay’s Lawyer of the Year award especially notable.”

From the Durban office, 10 Partners received recognition in their specialist areas on this years list – Peter Barnard – Construction Law; Lazelle Paola – Real Estate Law; Thys Scheepers – Insolvency and Reorganization Law; David Vlcek – Construction Law; Tina Halstead – Real Estate Law; Alastair Hay – Construction Law and Corporate Law; Richard Hoal – Construction Law; Michael Jackson – Mergers and Acquisitions Law and Private Equity Law and Robin Westley – Real Estate Law. Andrew Clark received the nod for both Insurance Law and Shipping Law this year and a consultant Roger Green was recognised in Real Estate Law.

The recently established Johannesburg practice added a further three names to the Cox Yeats haul. Gareth Cremen, specialising in Insolvency and Reorganization Law; Gary Pritchard, in Construction Law and Emili Souris in Real Estate Law.

“The achievements of all of our partners in 2022, as recognised by their peers, speaks to the exceptional range of expertise displayed by our legal team and the ability to be able to provide customised legal solutions to our clients nationally and internationally, across a wide range of industry sectors and disciplines in both the private and public sector,” adds Andrew Clark.

The Best Lawyers® methodology is designed to capture, as accurately as possible, the consensus opinion of leading lawyers about the professional abilities of their colleagues within the same geographical area and legal practice area by way of a conscientious, rational, and transparent survey process, designed to elicit meaningful and substantive evaluations of the quality of legal services.
