WESTERN CAPE – A multi-disciplinary law enforcement operation yielded success yesterday. 12 August 2026, resulting in the shutdown of an illegal scrap yard, the recovery of critical municipal infrastructure, and a major narcotics bust.

Members of Napier SAPS, Cape Agulhas Municipality Traffic and Law Enforcement and Cape Agulhas officials executed a targeted raid on an unlicensed scrap metal dealership in the area.

During the primary search, police recovered heavy-duty copper cables, electrical boxes, and water fittings positively identified as property belonging to the Cape Agulhas Municipality. A commercial scale and solar panels were also seized. The total value of this infrastructure is estimated at R550 000. A 54-year-old male was arrested on-site for operating without a license and possession of suspected stolen property. He will appear in the Bredasdorp Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 14 August 2026.

As the operation expanded on the same premises, vigilant officers extended their search to a Wendy house on the property. Hidden on the roof of the structure, police discovered a substantial amount of narcotics. The seized drugs includes two sachets cocaine, 110 mandrax tablets, 29 mandrax halves, 14 quarters mandrax tablets, 38 grams of mandrax powder and 30 sachets tik. The confiscated narcotics estimated street value is of R16 000.Two male suspects, aged 19 and 35 were arrested for dealing in drugs and are expected to make their first court appearance in the Bredasdorp Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 14 August 2026.

The SAPS management commends the operational team for their thoroughness, noting that removing both infrastructure thieves and drug dealers in a single operation deals a double-blow to criminal elements disrupting local communities.
